Background
Chara Charalampous was born and raised in Athens, Greece.
Her family origins are a Mediterranean melange; inspired by the Greek community of Egypt and its unique traditions, the tiny and remote island of Kassos in the Aegean Sea, and the history of Cyprus she naturally got a flair for art objects that project the mix of the Mediterranean cultures.
She studied fashion design in Athens and Costume & Set Design in London (Central School of Speech & Drama).
For 19 consecutive years, she has been designing sets and costumes for theater, film and television.
Her new project Charalampia pays tribute to tradition and is dedicated to her "giagia" cross stitch and crochet.
Fancy embroidery travels through time and ends up on unexpectedly surprising material such as metal & marble. Her jewellery and art objects reflect motifs, colors and patterns from the Greek folk costumes interpreted in a modern fashion.
Bracelets, earrings. belts, broaches, decorative candles, coffee table décor items are some of the elements of Charalampia's collection.
A collection that tells a modern story connected to the past.
Her objects can be found in selected concept stores and galleries in Greece and Cyprus.
